Erbstuck, German for heirloom, is the perfect description of this home as it is one of the very few historic properties in Gillespie County still owned by the same family. The Welges, one of the first German families to Fredericksburg, built this log and rock home over a period of years beginning prior to 1850. Originally one room and then a dogtrot, it now has two bedrooms, a kitchen and living room located off of the center (dining) room. The bathroom and bunkroom are located in the last addition, with access off of the back porch. It retains most of its original hand hewn beams, low doorways, doors, floors, and walls. Visitors can get a true glimpse of pioneer life while enjoying antiques, western décor, and a nice collection of western art. Still "out in the country" guests can almost imagine Indians riding horses along the creek bed behind the house at night.
